About me
Syleethia Carr is a Charlottesville born organizer, youth justice advocate, and healing‑centered leader committed to transforming the systems that shaped her own childhood. After witnessing the deep emotional and community impact of COVID‑19, she founded Not Me-I Believe, Inc., receiving 501(c)(3) status in 2022. Her nonprofit provides holistic support to youth and families navigating bullying, instability, and system involvement, with a focus on healing, dignity, and community care.
Drawing from her lived experience in the juvenile justice and family policing systems, Syleethia created YAR – Youth to Adult Readiness: Home, Healing, and Hope, an early intervention model offering housing stability, life skills development, and mentorship for youth preparing for independence. She also serves as a Court Facilitator with Central Virginia Community Justice and co‑leads the Transformative Futures reentry program at Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center.
Across all her work, Syleethia centers love, stability, and healing as the foundation for youth and families to thrive.
