About me
Steve Waddell is the CEO and President of Index HealthTech and Principal Investigator on multiple NIH-funded programs redefining how functional health decline is detected and managed. He is the creator of the Healthy Habits Index™ (HHI) — a novel behavioral biomarker that continuously measures the early signs of neurodegeneration and functional decline through passive, ambient sensing, no wearables, no cameras, no compliance required. Backed by over $5 million in non-dilutive NIH funding, Steve is building the infrastructure layer that transforms how health is measured in the home: a platform that predicts decline weeks to months before a fall, a hospitalization, or a diagnosis — shifting care from reactive crisis management to proactive, data-driven independence.
A systems thinker with rare depth across technology, clinical science, and risk, Steve previously developed the risk framework used in the construction of nuclear aircraft carriers — later recognized as an industry best practice by the Defense Acquisition University. He went on to help build and scale a multi-million-dollar company before founding Index HealthTech. He is also the award-winning author of Valuepreneurs and a TEDx speaker known for his philosophy of "Start with Who." Everything Steve builds is grounded in a single conviction: that dignity, independence, and safety should be measurable — and that the technology to measure them, continuously and passively, finally exists.
