Senator Creigh Deeds has served in the Senate of Virginia since 2001 and represents the 11th District, which includes the Counties of Albemarle, Amherst, Louisa (part), and Nelson and the City of Charlottesville. Senator Deeds serves on five standing committees and chairs the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee and the Health and Human Resources Subcommittee of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee. He also serves as the chair of the Behavioral Health Commission. For his mental health reform work, he has been recognized by a number of organizations, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Mental Health Virginia, the American Psychological Association Practice Organization, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He is a lawyer in private practice.
