About me
Scott T. Acton is the AT&T Professor and Chair of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia, where he directs the Virginia Image and Video Analysis laboratory. He served as Program Director and acting Deputy Division Director at the NSF Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate, where he directs programs in AI, signal processing and smart health. At UVA, he was AI Advisor to the Provost in 2024-2025. Scott received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Texas at Austin and is a Fellow of the IEEE “for contributions to biomedical image analysis.” He is also Fellow of the AI Industry Alliance and the Asia-Pacific AI Association. When not at work, he loves mountain biking and hiking.
