About me
Rob McGinnis is the Piedmont Environmental Council’s Senior Land Use Field Representative in Albemarle and Greene Counties. He brings 30 years of landscape architecture experience advocating for land use issues like smart growth in urban areas, protection of rural communities and resources, access to parks and open spaces, affordable housing, protected water supply infrastructure, renewable energy, and resilience planning.
Thanks to his proactive advocacy, the county began work last year to address data centers in a more comprehensive way. This led to the adoption of Albemarle County’s first Data Center Ordinance in November 2024 and the pausing of the proposed ordinance that would’ve allowed for greater-sized data centers in Albemarle County. He was also instrumental in shaping Albemarle County’s Comprehensive Plan (AC44) update. Rob has a MLA in Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia. He also has an MFA from California Institute of the Arts and a BFA from James Madison University.
