About me
Kathryn Harris leads the Defense practice at Scale AI, where she works at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and national security, translating state-of-the-art AI capabilities into real-world applications for the Department of Defense. She operates at the front lines of high-stakes decision-making, building and scaling complex programs, navigating enterprise partnerships, and driving the adoption of advanced technologies in some of the most mission-critical environments. A former senior Department of Defense official, Kathryn worked directly for the Secretary of Defense and the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and in earlier roles negotiated international agreements with governments around the world. Across government and industry, she has built a career shaping strategy, scaling organizations, and delivering results under pressure.
Her leadership is grounded in a simple but hard-earned belief: trust is the currency of high-performing teams and enduring partnerships. Known for leading with authenticity and a focus on developing the people around her, Kathryn has built teams that perform even in the most demanding and ambiguous environments. Having navigated both high-growth organizations and challenging cultures, she brings a clear-eyed perspective on what it takes to lead through complexity, staying grounded, mission-focused, and steady when it matters most.
Kathryn holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.A. in National Security Policy from Georgetown University. She also served as an adjunct professor in Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, where she taught Hacking for Defense. Outside of work, she is a self-described optimist who cycles through hobbies with enthusiasm, from painting to piano to cultivating an ever-growing collection of houseplants, each with its own name and personality. When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her running, playing tennis, or outdoors with friends, embracing the same energy and curiosity that define her approach to leadership.
