About me
Jody Keenan is a longtime advocate for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and the communities that support them. With nearly three decades of experience, she has built a career focused on helping founders navigate challenges, find resources, and turn ideas into sustainable ventures.
She leads the Virginia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, overseeing 25 local SBDCs that offer free, expert guidance to entrepreneurs across the Commonwealth. In this role, Jody manages statewide partnerships, federal and state funding, and initiatives designed to make entrepreneurship more accessible—no matter where someone lives or what stage they’re in.
Jody also serves as Senior Director of Mason Enterprise at George Mason University, where she leads programs that provide business advising, access to capital, and strategic connections for startups and small businesses. Her work brings together entrepreneurs, universities, funders, and public agencies to strengthen regional innovation and economic growth.
Earlier in her career, Jody worked in economic development at the local level, supporting enterprise zones, revitalization efforts, and job creation. She has held leadership roles in national and state organizations, including serving as Chair of the Association of Small Business Development Centers and as an Ex-Officio Board Member of the Virginia Economic Developers Association.
Jody holds an MBA from La Salle University and a bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary. She’s passionate about building inclusive, resilient ecosystems where great ideas can thrive.
