About me
Anne Coyner has been in Waldorf Education for nearly 15 years, working with families and young children. She's created and led Parent & Child programs at Waldorf schools in both California and Virginia. Her multiple roles over the years at CWS have Anne interfacing regularly with the public and parents interested in learning about Waldorf. Anne is an advocate for childhood - young children thrive when given the space to blossom and develop through play, story, song, and movement. Elementary and middle school students thrive in a liberal arts environment rich with academics, music, handwork, physical movement, outdoor time and more. Anne's passion for Waldorf education lies in a strong conviction that we cannot rush development or academic learning to younger and younger children. When given what they need, in an environment rich with academics, music, art, movement and play, children can vibrantly grow and develop with less anxiety. Anne's perspective is that of a teacher, Admin team member, Early Childhood Department Chair, and a parent of a CWS 2023 graduate.
Anne's other calling is as an anthropologist - her work includes traditional story, language, and cultural revitalization projects, policy and advocacy work, grant writing, and co-leading a federal recognition case. She has worked under community leaders in the Navajo Nation in Arizona, the greater Samoan and Pacific Islander community in Los Angeles, Native American Rights Fund (NARF) and the Little Shell Chippewa Tribe of Montana.
