About me
Alwyn Dippenaar is a 4th-year student at the University of Virginia studying Computer Science in the school of Engineering and Applied Science. In their capacity as President of the Washington Society, they are responsible for leading nearly 200 students in an organization that has been dedicated to promoting the art of oratory and debate across Grounds for 195 years. From coordinating inter-societal events and educating members in their oratorical abilities to promoting public service among members, Alwyn encourages all students to live by one of their Society's beloved mottos: "Get Involved and Speak Out."
Aside from their involvement with "the Wash," Alwyn is also the Opinion Editor and a writer for the Jefferson Independent, a student-run newspaper. They are also an avid educator, teaching students of all ages in STEM concepts and in speech as a volunteer through Madison House, and they intern with a Charlottesville-based startup to improve caretaking and assisted living outcomes amongst elders in central Virginia.
