About me
Rev. Alex Joyner is the co-chair of IMPACT Charlottesville, an interfaith organization composed of 29 member congregations in the Charlottesville/Albemarle region. IMPACT builds power to take direct action that addresses the systemic causes of injustice, inequality and poverty. IMPACT has won victories on an array of community issues including transportation, housing, dental and mental health care, education, and interpretive services. These are all large-scale changes to the community that actually change the lives of individuals on a micro-level.
Alex Joyner serves as the senior pastor of Charlottesville First United Methodist Church in downtown Charlottesville. He began his career as a radio news director in the Charlottesville market and has gone on to work with Interfaith Dallas, to pastor churches in Texas, Virginia, and England, to collaborate with students as a campus minister, and to teach as adjunct faculty at Perkins School of Theology at SMU. He holds degrees from UVA & SMU.
