UVA’s
Thriving Youth in a Digital Environment (TYDE) and DMR Adventures are excited to perform a unique show/workshop where we have teen actors work with parent actors (& parent audience members!) on how to have hard conversations about teen's anxiety, managing screen use, etc. The goal is to help parents develop skills and break down barriers, and practice different challenges with teens themselves acting as guides. It will be part improv, with some basic topics and scenarios planned in advance.
Too often, conversations between parents and teens on sensitive topics are either avoided or high in conflict. We hope to empower parents to have conversations with teens about difficult topics (e.g., mental health, cell phone & social media use) in ways that are supportive, courageous, effective, and meet teens ‘where they are.
